The Art Gallery Behind Your Eyes

The Art Gallery Behind Your Eyes

When was the last time you surprised yourself? When did a thought about you teach you something you hadn't recognized?

Imagine going to an art gallery. A gallery filled with hundreds of different styles and themes of paintings and pictures. All through the eyes and the thoughts and the imaginations of so many other people.

What? I'm Not Fun All The Time?

What?  I'm Not Fun All The Time?
While I was walking the dogs the other day I turned the corner and noticed that my neighbor down the street was walking his dogs towards my direction. I decided to take a detour down a street I usually don't go because I don't like my neighbor.  While he jabbers on and on and on, that's not the reason I don't like him. He's just a bitter and mean man, and I don't like being around him.
In typical Fun Factor fashion, I had to analyze and assess what seemed to be a strong and short-sided negative behavior in this situation. While one side of me thought that was not a "fun" perspective to have, the rational side of me told the Fun Factor side of me to fuck off.
Being a fun person doesn't mean being fun with everybody all the time. That's just stupid and comical. Rather, it means if you put yourself out there in places you choose, then have full intention of being a fun and positive experience there.
I have to remind myself of that every once in awhile.

Are My Dogs Happy?

Are My Dogs Happy?

"What? Me worry?"
Wallace and Winston just being present.

I was watching my dogs lay on their beds.  Both of them were relaxing and looking outside at the birds.  I wondered what they were thinking.  I don't believe they have cognitive or existential thoughts, but I do believe that my dogs can think.

Satisfaction = Reality - Expectations

Satisfaction = Reality - Expectations

While satisfaction does not equal happiness, happiness is often difficult to achieve without some level of satisfaction.

Satisfaction equals reality minus one's expectation of it. In order to maximize satisfaction, one either needs to change their reality, or reduce their expectations. Changing one's expectations is possible, possibly even easy. However,

Oh, The Obviousness Of It All
(Communication creates happy lives)

Harvard University did a study on happiness and the quality-of-life by following over a thousand of its graduates for over 70 years. (The author's TED talk has been seen over 40 million times on YouTube.)  The intention of the study was to determine what elements of a person's life made them most fulfilled, satisfied and happy.
